State Rep. Corinne Ching, R-27th (Nu'uanu, Liliha, 'Alewa Heights), pleaded no contest Tuesday to excessive speeding after being stopped by police last month.

Ching said she was traveling on Likelike Highway between a family function and a community event on June 29 when she was stopped. She was driving 77 mph in a 35 mph speed zone.

Excessive speeding is defined under the law as going 30 mph over the posted speed limit or over 80 mph.

Ching was ordered to pay a $500 fine, attend a driver's education course, and perform community service. Her driver's license was suspended for 30 days.

"I'll accept the responsibility," she said. "I was speeding."
