A 42-year-old man who allegedly tried to extort money from a woman in exchange for not harming her pet dog was charged today with first-degree burglary, second-degree extortion and three counts of violating a protective order.

Arnel John A. Vicente, also known as John Arnold Vicente, has a District Court appearance scheduled tomorrow. His aggregate bail is $50,000.

Vicente, who has no permanent local address, allegedly stole a 65-year-old woman's pet dog on Sunday in Nanakuli and demanded money from her to keep the animal alive. He was arrested Monday night on Hakimo Road and Farrington Highway.

Vicente has 12 prior convictions.
