The current system backed by Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann ends at Ala Moana and does not continue to Waikiki.

The union said: "As the debate around rail becomes increasingly politicized, we must not forget that the issue of bringing about solutions to our transit problem is not so much political as it is a question of improving our quality of lives, and that means supporting a solution that can get workers from where they live to where they work or go to school."
