PORTLOCK
China Wall drowning victim was fisherman, 58

The Honolulu medical examiner's office yesterday identified the fisherman who died Tuesday after being swept off a ledge and pounded by waves at China Wall as Alan Yoshihiro Nakamatsu, 58.

An autopsy listed his death as asphyxia due to accidental drowning.

Nakamatsu, a Honolulu resident, died at Straub Clinic & Hospital at about 12:30 p.m., police said.

A male companion told police that Nakamatsu was knocked down by a large wave while setting up fishing gear and swept off the ledge by another wave.
