Florida State eliminates Florida, 17-11

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State unleashed a season-high 25-hit attack on Florida to stave off elimination with a 17-11 NCAA Regional win yesterday.

The Seminoles (49-11), the No. 4 seed nationally, rallied from an early four-run deficit, then broke a 9-9 tie by outscoring the Gators 8-2 over the final four innings. Six Florida State players collected at least three hits, led by Tyler Holt and Jason Stidham with four each.

Tony Delmonico's three-run home run capped a five-run seventh inning and reliever Elih Villanueva (7-2) struck out 10, including seven of the last nine Gators he faced after replacing starter Matt Fairel to start the fourth inning.

Florida's first postseason appearance in three years came to an end when the Gators (34-24) could not hold a 5-1 lead after three innings.

Today, Florida State will meet Bucknell in an elimination game.

Tulane 4, Bucknell 1: Matt Petiton and Preston Claiborne combined on a three-hitter, Rob Segedin had a two-run single and Anthony Scelfo a two-run double as the Green Wave (39-20-1) beat the Bison (30-23-2) to advance to the regional championship game. Tulane can clinch its fourth regional title with a victory over the winner of the Florida State-Bucknell game today.

ATHENS REGIONAL

At Athens, Ga.

Georgia 9, Louisville 8: Gordon Beckham's three-run homer helped the Bulldogs (36-22-1) rally from a three-run deficit with seven runs in the seventh to eliminate the Cardinals (41-21). Beckham set a school record with his 24th homer of the season.

Georgia Tech 6, Lipscomb 3: Jason Haniger hit a three-run homer, but it took a two-run double by Brad Feltes in the eighth to break a tie as the Yellow Jackets (41-19) advanced to the regional championship. Georgia and Lipscomb (33-29) will play earlier today for the right to face the Yellow Jackets tonight.

CORAL GABLES REGIONAL

At Coral Gables, Fla.

Mississippi 14, Bethune-Cookman 1: Michael Guerrero homered twice in a 10-run sixth inning as the Rebels (38-25) ousted the Wildcats (36-22).

Miami 6, Missouri 5: Yasmani Grandal's tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth helped the Hurricanes (50-8) earn a berth in the championship bracket, while sending the Tigers (39-21) into today's elimination game against Mississippi.

CARY REGIONAL

At Cary, N.C.

Elon 6, Mount St. Mary's 3: Mike Melillo's two-run homer in the sixth inning propelled the Phoenix (44-17) past the Mountaineers (21-34) and into another elimination game today against UNC Wilmington.

North Carolina 5, UNC Wilmington 1: Kyle Seager and Tim Federowicz hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning and Alex White (9-3) pitched a three-hitter to lead the Tar Heels (48-12) past the Seahawks (43-16-1).

CONWAY REGIONAL

At Conway, S.C.

East Carolina 9, Columbia 0: Jamie Ray hit a two-run homer and Corey Kemp added a three-run shot as the Pirates (41-20) eliminated the Lions (22-30) and moved into today's elimination game against Alabama.

Coastal Carolina 13, Alabama 10: Tommy Baldridge hit a three-run homer and the Chanticleers (49-12) scored seven runs in the eighth inning to rally past the Crimson Tide (35-27) and reach the regional finals.

BATON ROUGE REGIONAL

At Baton Rouge, La.

New Orleans 18, Texas Southern 5: Johnny Giavotella was 3 for 3 with a home run and Nick Schwaner drove in four runs as the Privateers (43-20) ousted the Tigers (16-34) to advance to an elimination game today against Southern Mississippi.

LSU 13, Southern Mississippi 4: Matt Clark blasted his 24th and 25th home runs of the season, both two-run shots, as the Tigers (45-16-1) routed the Bulldogs (41-21) to advance to the championship game with a nation-best 22nd straight victory.

STILLWATER REGIONAL

At Stillwater, Okla.

TCU 10, Western Kentucky 5: Bryan Holaday hit the go-ahead two-run double in a five-run seventh inning, leading the Horned Frogs (44-18) past the Hilltoppers (33-27) and into another elimination game against Oklahoma State.

Wichita State 5, Oklahoma State 3: Dusty Coleman hit a two-run homer and Aaron Shafer pitched a five-hitter for his third complete game of the season as the Shockers (46-15) beat the Cowboys (43-17).

RALEIGH REGIONAL

At Raleigh, N.C.

James Madison 13, Charlotte 12: Brett Sellers hit a two-run double in the eighth as the Dukes (39-19) rallied from a 10-2 deficit to beat the 49ers (43-16). James Madison will play South Carolina in another elimination game today.

North Carolina State 5, South Carolina 4: Marcus Jones' tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh inning lifted the Wolfpack (40-20) over the Gamecocks (39-22) and into the regional championship.

LINCOLN REGIONAL

At Lincoln, Neb.

Oral Roberts 8, Eastern Illinois 7: Brendan Duffy's two-out RBI single in the top of the 10th helped the Golden Eagles (47-13) oust the Panthers (27-30) and earn a shot at Nebraska today in an elimination game.

UC Irvine 3, Nebraska 2: Daniel Bibona allowed four hits over eight innings, allowing just one baserunner after the third, and Ollie Linton hit a tie-breaking homer in the fifth to lift the Anteaters (40-16) over the Cornhuskers (41-15-1).

HOUSTON REGIONAL

AT HOUSTON

Texas 13, Sam Houston State 3: Kyle Russell homered twice and drove in four runs as the Longhorns (38-21) eliminated the Bearkats (37-25) and advanced to another elimination game against St. John's today.

Rice 11, St. John's 2: J.P. Padron homered and drove in a career-high five runs, keeping the Owls (44-13) unbeaten in the regional with a rout of the Red Storm (42-15)

STANFORD REGIONAL

At Stanford, Calif.

Stanford 5, Arkansas 1: Randy Molina had three hits, including a home run, and scored three runs for the Cardinal (34-22), who ousted the Razorbacks (34-24) and will play the UC Davis in today's elimination game.

Pepperdine 7, UC Davis 4: Denny Duron and Nate Simon each hit two-run homers, helping the Waves (38-19) beat the Aggies (35-23) to move within one win of advancing to a super regional.

COLLEGE STATION

AT COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS

Illinois-Chicago 9, Dallas Baptist 5: Ty Rubio and Brett Schaefer each drove in two runs as the Flames (35-21) ousted the Patriots (37-19) in a game in which the teams set an NCAA tournament record for hit batters in a game with 11.

Texas A&M 22, Houston 4: Kyle Colligan homered on the game's second pitch and the Aggies (45-16) never looked back, hitting six homers in sending the Cougars (40-23) into today's elimination game against illinois-Chicago.

ANN ARBOR REGIONAL

At Ann Arbor, Mich.

Kentucky 4, Eastern Michigan 3: Sawyer Carroll hit his second home run of the NCAA tournament to help the Wildcats (43-18) beat the Eagles (25-34) and earn another shot at Michigan today in an elimination game.

Arizona 4, Michigan 3: Brad Glenn and C.J. Ziegler had RBIs during a three-run first and Jon Gaston scored the decisive run two innings later on an error as the Wildcats (40-17) beat the Wolverines (46-14).

TEMPE REGIONAL

At Tempe, Ariz.

Vanderbilt 9, Stony Brook 4: Andrew Giobbi was 4 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Commodores (41-21) past the Seawolves (34-26) and into an elimination game today against Oklahoma.

ARIZONA STATE 15, OKLAHOMA 3: After the Sun Devils (47-11) scored three runs in the first and two runs in the second, Mike Jone put the game away with a three-run homer in the sixth in a rout of the Sooners (35-25-1).

LONG BEACH REGIONAL

At Long Beach, Calif.

Long Beach State 9, California 2: Travis Howell had three hits and Danny Espinosa, Jason Corder and Jonathan Jones had two each as the 49ers (38-20) stayed in contention by eliminating the Bears (33-21-2).

Fresno State 6, San Diego 0: Clayton Allison pitched a five-hitter as the Bulldogs (39-27) sent the Toreros (42-16) to an elimination game against Long Beach State today.

FULLERTON REGIONAL

At Fullerton, Calif.

Virginia 8, Rider 2: Andrew Carraway and Michael Schwimer combined for a six-hitter as the Cavaliers (39-22) eliminated the Broncs (29-28).

UCLA 11, CAL STATE-FULLERTON 4: The Bruins (33-25) scored in each of the first four innings to take a 10-2 lead in beating the Titans (38-20).
