Oahu roadwork this week

The State Department of Transportation has announced the following lane closures this week, weather permitting.

H-1 AIRPORT VIADUCT EASTBOUND THREE-LANE CLOSURE (Night Work)

Three-lane closures on the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct in the Honolulu-bound direction from west of the Airport on-ramp to the Middle Street Tunnel on Monday night through Thursday morning from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., nightly, for concrete pavement repair work.

All on-and-off-ramps will remain open during this time. Single lane closures may also be implemented on Nimitz Highway below the viaduct during these hours as a safety precaution.

PAIWA STREET INTERCHANGE (Night Work)

Nighttime lane closures at the H-1 Freeway Paiwa Interchange throughvTuesday morning from 9:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for traffic detector installations at the following locations:

  • Left-turn lane on the Honolulu-bound H-1 Freeway Waikele/Waipahu off-ramp to Paiwa Street (Exit 7) will be closed. Motorists wishing to access Paiwa Street in the northbound direction are advised to use Hiapo Street, Managers Drive and Lumiaina Street as an alternate route.

  • Left-turn lane from Paiwa Street in the southbound direction heading onto the Honolulu-bound H-1 Freeway on-ramp will be closed. Southbound Paiwa Street motorists wishing to access the H-1 Freeway are advised to use Hiapo Street and surface streets to turn around and access the northbound Paiwa Street lanes.

    H-2 FREEWAY

    KIPAPA STREAM BRIDGE (Night Work)

    Nighttime lane closures on the H-2 Freeway Kipapa Stream Bridge in the southbound direction through Friday morning from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. nightly, for pavement resurfacing.

    HONOLULU-BOUND MEHEULA PARKWAY ON-RAMP CLOSURE

    H-2 Freeway Honolulu-bound on-ramp from Mililani Town on Meheula Parkway will be closed through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for pavement resurfacing.

    Honolulu-bound motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway or to proceed along Meheula Parkway, U-turn at the Ainamakua Drive intersection and use the H-2 Freeway Honolulu-bound loop on-ramp from the Makai-bound lanes.

    During these hours, the Meheula Parkway sidewalk on the Mauka-bound side will also be closed from Kuahelani Avenue to the bus stop at 1618 Meheula Parkway. Mauka-bound pedestrians are advised to cross Meheula Parkway at the Kuahelani Avenue intersection and use the opposite sidewalk.

    FARRINGTON HIGHWAY

    MAKAHA

    Single lane closures on Farrington Highway in both directions from Orange Street to Kili Drive through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for pavement resurfacing.

    KAHEKILI HIGHWAY

    KANEOHE

    Left lane closures on Kahekili Highway in both directions from Kulukeoe Street to Haiku Road through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for drainage and water line system installations, and median barrier construction.

    KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY

    NEAR CASTLE JUNCTION

    Right-lane closure in the Kailua-bound direction between Castle Junction and Kapaa Quarry Road through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for erosion control work.

    Work and lane closures are scheduled at this site on weekdays through June 2008. Project contractor Prometheus Construction will be anchoring mesh safety netting to the adjacent hillside to stabilize the slope.

    KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY

    NEAR PEARL HARBOR

    Single lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in both directions from McGrew Loop to Valkenburgh Street through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for lane striping, marker installations and guardrail repairs.

    MILILANI TO WHEELER AAF

    Northbound traffic on Kamehameha Highway will be contraflowed using the southbound lanes between Waikalani Drive and Lehua Road through Friday from to 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily. Single lane closures are also scheduled at the following locations:

  • Northbound from Waihau Street to Santos Dumont Avenue.

  • Southbound from Santos Dumont Avenue to Lehua Street.

    Portable concrete barriers will be closing these lane segments for shoulder widening and curb construction.

    LIKELIKE HIGHWAY

    UPPER KALIHI AREA

    Right lane closures on Likelike Highway in the Honolulu-bound direction from the Wilson Tunnel to Valley View Drive through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for tree trimming.

    ALA MOANA BOULEVARD

    RESURFACING PROJECT (Night Work)

    Multiple lane closures on Ala Moana Boulevard in both directions from Koula Street to Piikoi Street through Friday morning from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., nightly, for pavement striping and adjustment of manhole frames and covers.

    To avoid delays, motorists are advised to use Queen Street or South King Street as alternate routes.

    ALA MOANA TO WAIKIKI

    Single lane closures on Ala Moana Boulevard in both directions between Kalakaua Avenue and Kalia Road through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for street light and traffic signal duct line installations and driveway, sidewalk and curb construction.

    This improvements project will include the reconstruction and resurfacing of pavement areas, the addition of a fourth eastbound lane from Hobron Lane to Kalia Road, the lengthening of left-turn stacking lanes onto Hobron Lane and Kalia Road, center median landscaping enhancements designed in consultation with the Outdoor Circle, replacement of highway lighting with decorative lighting similar to Kalakaua Avenue, and the reconstruction of portions of pedestrian sidewalks and driveways.

    These road improvements will be paid for by the Hilton Hotels Corporation as part of a larger development surrounding the construction of The Grand Waikikian Tower, adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa. Hilton has also established a construction information hotline at 948-7600 and an informational website at www.villagerejuvenation.com. Project completion is anticipated in December 2008.

    MOKAPU BOULEVARD

    KALAHEO (Weekend Work)

    Right lane closures on Mokapu Boulevard in both directions between North Kalaheo Avenue and Kaneohe Bay Drive from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for light pole repairs.

    FORT WEAVER ROAD

    EWA (Weekend Work)

    Multiple lane closures on Fort Weaver Road in the southbound direction from the H-1 Freeway to Farrington Highway from 9:00 p.m. on Friday night to 5:00 a.m. on Saturday morning for lane striping and marker installations.

    EWA

    Single lane closures on Fort Weaver Road in both directions through Friday at the following locations and times:

  • Southbound Direction (from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily)

  • Left lane closure between Laulaunui Street and Old Fort Weaver Road for trenching work for the installation of electrical conduits.

  • Single lane closures from Aawa Drive to beyond the Honouliuli Stream Bridge for trenching and drainage line installations.

    In addition, traffic on Old Fort Weaver Road will be contraflowed in a single lane near the Fort Weaver Road intersection through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily, for waterline installation work.

    KUNIA ROAD

    Roving single lane closures on Kunia Road in the northbound direction from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday for pothole repairs.

    PUULOA ROAD

    MAPUNAPUNA

    Various lane closures on Puuloa Road between Kamehameha Highway and Salt Lake Boulevard through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

  • Shoulder lanes in both directions closed. Roadside parking will not be permitted.

  • Various lane closures and possible detours in all directions for traffic signal system installations.

  • Lane modification on Mokumoa Street between Puuloa Road and Mapunapuna Street for drainage work. No large vehicles are allowed through this area. One lane of travel in each direction is available for cars.

    HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

    INTERISLAND TERMINAL PARKING STRUCTURE

    Lane closures at the Honolulu International Airport for the construction of a vehicular and pedestrian bridge connecting the new 1,800-stall parking structure to the existing Interisland Terminal Parking Structure at the following locations and times:

  • Ground level access into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be closed 24/7 through Frida. Access into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be detoured through the second level makai parking entry. Access from the ground floor parking entry into the Overseas Terminal Parking Structure will continue to be maintained at all times.

  • Second level mauka entry into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be closed through Friday morning from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., nightly. Access into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be detoured to the second level makai parking entry. Closure of this entry point will continue weekly.

  • Second level roadway to the Overseas Terminal Bypass Road will be closed through Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., nightly. Access to the Overseas Terminal will be detoured through the roadway fronting the Interisland Terminal. Closure of this area will continue weekly.

    Motorists are also encouraged to utilize the economy parking lot located at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive. The completion of the new parking structure is slated for December 2008.
