Hawaii April hotel occupancy lowest in 5 years

Advertiser Staff

The occupancy rate at Hawai'i hotels fell to 69.5 percent in April — the lowest percentage for any April since 2003 — largely reflecting a decline in visitors following the closure of Aloha and ATA airlines.

The April occupancy rate fell 1.4 percentage points from the same month a year earlier, according to a report from industry consultant Hospitality Advisers LLC.

The average daily rate also fell in April, slipping 1.2 percent to $197.07, according to the report. The combination of reduced occupancy and average daily rate resulted in a 3.2 percent drop in revenue per available room to $137.03.
