FOSTER VILLAGE
City crews to smoke-test sewer system this week

City Department of Environmental Services crews will conduct smoke testing of the wastewater collection system in Foster Village residential areas this week and next week.

The smoke testing will occur today through Friday and next week Tuesday through Friday.

The testing is part of the city's effort to prevent rainwater from entering the sewer system, which can cause spills.

Crews will pump smoke into sewer lines to see whether and where any smoke escapes. The smoke is nontoxic, harmless and odorless, the city said.

Crews plan to test streets including: 'Olino, Puanakau, Molina, Halupa, Hakupapa, 'Epukane, Pi'ikea, Punihi, Holapa, as well as Molehu and Haloa drives and Palahinu place.
