Former University of Hawai'i star Chad Owens scored five touchdowns, but his Colorado Crush lost, 73-65, to the visiting New York Dragons last night in an Arena Football League game.

Owens, who played for the Warriors from 2001-'04, finished with 10 receptions for 132 yards and four touchdown receptions.

Owens caught a 22-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, a 13-yarder in the second, a 20-yarder in the third and a 19-yarder in the fourth. All the scoring passes were from John Dutton, who finished 29 of 40 for 340 yards and eight touchdowns with one interception.

Owens also had a 56-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third.

He had 10 kickoff returns for 228 yards and finished with 360 all-purpose yards.

New York's Aaron Garcia was 27 of 39 for 298 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.

GOLF

TIGER PRACTICING

Tiger Woods has started playing some holes, taking another step in his comeback from knee surgery.

With the U.S. Open just a week away, Woods is not worried about how he and his left leg will fare.

"Hopefully, it will be close to a hundred percent," Woods said yesterday at Bloomfield Township, Mich. "But if it's not, no big deal."

The world's No. 1 golfer had surgery on his left knee April 15 and plans to end his layoff June 12-15 at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

"I've been practicing quite a bit," he said. "I've just started to play some holes. I've been kind of slowly building up towards that. I'm not trying to take it too hard. My practice sessions have increased."

SOCCER

MISL SHUTS DOWN

The Major Indoor Soccer League has shut down after seven seasons, and is considering restructuring.

The league, which had been in operation since the 2001-02 season and had nine teams in the 2007-08 season, ceased operation last weekend. That came a few days after commissioner Steve Ryan resigned.

The league had teams this season in Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., Orlando, Fla., Stockton, Calif., and Monterrey, Mexico.
