WAI'ANAE
OHA awards grant for new community kitchen

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs will award a nearly $38,000 research grant toward the building of a Certified Community Kitchen on the Wai'anae Coast.

The grant is to encourage new business development along the coast.

Such a kitchen could accommodate preparation services for food trucks, catering concerns, and small food service operations, and provide meals for a number of nonprofit organizations, including those that care for the homeless, an OHA announcement said.

In addition, the kitchen will include a professionally staffed business incubator to educate, support and train new Wai'anae Coast business owners.

The grant is being awarded to Hui O Aloha Aina, a coast nonprofit that will coordinate the proposed project's research and planning.
