KANE'OHE
Fishpond restoration needs volunteers June 21

Learn about old-time Hawaiian fishponds and help restore one from 8 a.m. to noon June 21 at Waikalua Loko Fishpond in Kane'ohe.

Participants will help remove mangrove and limu, and rebuild the 350-year-old pond wall.

Come prepared to work, with covered shoes or tabis, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, a handsaw and long pants for mangrove removal or surf shorts for limu removal.

Volunteers must register ahead of time and will be limited to 150 people. Groups and schools are welcome.

To register, contact Andrea Jepson at 263-8202 or jepsona001@hawaii.rr.com.
