Maui's Arnoult to represent U.S. in Beijing Paralympics

Advertiser Staff

Ten years of hard work paid off for Maui's Beth Arnoult, who has been selected as one of two women to represent the U.S. at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics in September.

The international competition for athletes with physical disabilities is second in size only to the Olympic Games. The Paralympic Games follow the Olympics at the same venues and facilities. The Paralympic Games started in 1960 and now feature competition in 19 sports.

The U.S. Olympic Committee selects and prepares national teams. There are seven players on the men's team. California's Kaitlyn Verfuerth and Arnoult — ranked 1-2 in the U.S. — make up the women's team.

Those who would like to donate to Arnoult's training and travel expenses can send a check to "Dare to Dream," 74 Ulupua Pl., Paia, 96779. Write "Beth Arnoult, Paralympics" on the memo line.
