BENEFIT FOR HOMELESS VETERANS JUNE 14

The U.S. Vets Patriot 5K Walk and Run, a race to benefit homeless veterans, will be June 14 in 'Ewa Beach.

Pre-race activities start at 4 p.m. and the race will follow at 5 p.m. at Iroquois Point Island Club.

The funds from the event will benefit U.S. Vets-Hawai'i, a program that houses homeless veterans.

"We hope to raise money to continue to provide hot meals, a safe home and job training for former soldiers that have plummeted to homelessness," said Darryl Vincent, a veteran and the Hawai'i site director. "We believe that it is a crime for anyone that served our country to be homeless. Our goal is to now serve them when they need our help."

Registration is $25 ($20 for military) if postmarked by today. Afterwards, registration is $30, and entries will be accepted the morning of the race.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as for top-three finishers in the age-group divisions.

For online registration and information, visit www.pacificsportevents.com.

As part of the event, there will be a free concert on the beach featuring Corey Oliveros, along with games for kids and food. The event will run until 7 p.m.
