Kula reserve, Polipoli park to close for repairs

Advertiser Staff

On Monday and Wednesday of this week, Kula Forest Reserve and Polipoli State Park will be closed for repairs to the forest access road. It will be closed again the week of June 16, the State Department of Land and Natural Resources said.

The reserve will be open for public use on weekends.

The closures are needed to repair damaged portions of the road that were impacted by fire-suppression efforts in January 2007 and by flood damage in December 2007, said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairwoman.

The repairs are part of phase one of a two-year effort to restore damaged areas in the forest reserve.

The project cost is $249,000 and is expected to be completed by June 30.
