A Big Island fire today damaged a one-room structure in the Pahoa district.

Pahoa fire Capt. Noel Aoki said the 8:57 a.m. fire at 12-0547 Kaua'i St. in Kalapana caused an estimated $19,829 in damage to a structure measuring16 feet by 12 feet. Five responding company reported the fire under control at 9:15 a.m.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding bush, said Aoki.
