Rose Tremain wins Orange Prize

Associated Press

LONDON — English writer Rose Tremain has won Britain's Orange Prize for fiction by women.

The judges of the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction awarded the prize to Tremain Wednesday for her novel, "The Road Home," about an Eastern European migrant in Britain.

Tremain set the novel in London and has said she wanted to draw out the individuality of an immigrant.

She beat five finalists for the award, including a graduate student from the University of Hawai'i. Patricia Wood was nominated for her first novel, "Lottery."
