GOING VEGAS
Klondike casino suddenly gone

By Anthony Curtis

In what must have been the least-publicized demolition in Strip history, the Klondike casino has been leveled. Though shuttered for the past year, the casino had operated on the south end of the Strip (almost across the street from the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign) for decades. Both the casino and the adjacent motel are gone, and you can now see back into the airport runways. A sign advertises the 10.3 acres for sale; the asking price has been reported at $18 million per acre.

CROWN DOWN: After months of indications that the big Crown Las Vegas project earmarked for the north Strip was having problems, plans for the resort have been officially canceled. The $5 billion plan for Crown included 5,000 rooms and a tower rivaling the height of Stratosphere.

BRAXTON OUT: The remaining dates for "Toni Braxton: Revealed at the Flamingo" have been canceled. The production show that began in August 2006 was scheduled to run through mid-August of this year, but has been on hiatus since Braxton was hospitalized in April with a heart problem.

$100 DEAL: Here's another of those only-in-Vegas offers. New members of Harrah's Total Rewards players club can sign up and play away on slots and video poker with downside protection up to $100. Play on the day that you join, and up to $100 in losses will be refunded via mail about 60 days later. The deal is offered in Las Vegas at Harrah's, Caesars Palace, Imperial Palace, Paris, Rio, Flamingo and Bally's, and will run till Sept. 30. You must be a new member.
