Kapiolani water-main break repairs will continue overnight

Advertiser Staff

Repair work on a damaged 12-inch water main at one of Honolulu's busiest intersections — Kapi'olani Boulevard and Ke'eaumoku Street — will continue overnight, according to Board of Water Supply officials.

The damaged main was scheduled to be replaced as part of the Kapi'olani water project, but the contractor will complete a connection which will eliminate the need to repair the broken main, said water board spokesperson Tracy Burgo.

The broken main is affecting traffic flow but not service to customers, Burgo said.

Kapi'olani Boulevard from Kona Iki to Mahukona streets was closed to traffic at 3:52 p.m. today. Ke'eaumoku Street at the entrance to Ala Moana Center to Makaloa Street is also closed.

Traffic is being diverted from Kona Iki onto Kona Street and from Mahukona to Makaloa.
