Kapiolani water main fixed; road reopened

Repair work on a damaged 12-inch water main at one of Honolulu's busiest intersections — Kapi'olani Boulevard and Ke'eaumoku Street — have been completed and the road was reopened at 7 a.m., according to Board of Water Supply officials.

The damaged main was scheduled to be replaced as part of the Kapi'olani water project but the BWS contractor will complete a connection which will eliminate the need to repair the broken main, said BWS spokesperson Tracy Burgo.

The broken main affected traffic flow but not service to customers, Burgo said.

Traffic on Kapi'olani Boulevard from Kona Iki to Mahukona streets had been closed to traffic since 3:52 p.m. yesterday. Ke'eaumoku Street at the entrance to Ala Moana Center to Makaloa Street were also closed.
