Kikiaola construction starting soon

Advertiser Staff

Construction work at the Kikiaola small boat harbor on Kauai is expected to start in mid-June, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources announced yesterday.

Initially, a minimum of one-half of the entrance channel will remain open at all times to permit vessels to enter and exit the harbor, but starting Sept. 1 the harbor may be closed during construction at one-week intervals.

Construction work will start at the east breakwater of the Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor, DLNR said.

The east breakwater will be removed in sections and reconstructed to provide a higher structure for more inner harbor protection. Work on the west breakwater is expected to begin in late October.

Dredging work is planned for early November. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of April 2009.
