USO Hawai'i is hosting Military Appreciation Day at the Honolulu Zoo on June 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, free to valid military ID holders, will include a free picnic lunch to the first 8,000 service-connected personnel and their families.

"It is important to honor our servicemen and -women and their families with a day of food, entertainment and goodwill at one of the wildest places you can go in our community, the Honolulu Zoo," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann in a statement. "All of us in Hawaii owe so much to the members of our armed forces and the families that support them."
