HILO
Meeting on temporary prison housing is tonight

State prisons officials will host a meeting tonight on plans to erect five temporary structures at correctional facilities on the Big Island to house minimum security or community custody inmates.

The Department of Public Safety plans to put one of the Sprung Instant Structures at Hawai'i Community Correctional Center, and another at the Hale Nani correctional complex in Hilo. Both would house substance abuse treatment programs for convicts.

Two more of the temporary structures are planned to add housing for up to 128 more inmates at Kulani Correctional Facility, and a third structure would be erected at Kulani to provide substance abuse treatment.

The public meeting on the proposal will be at 5 p.m. tonight at the Aupuni Center Conference Room in Hilo. For more information, visit the Public Safety Web site at http://hawaii.gov/psd/
