KEKAHA
Construction about to start at Kikiaola harbor

Construction work at the Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor on Kaua'i is expected to start in mid-June, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources has announced.

Initially, at least half of the entrance channel will remain open at all times to permit vessels to enter and exit the harbor, but starting Sept. 1 the harbor may be closed during construction at one-week intervals.

Construction will start at the east breakwater of the harbor, the DLNR said. The breakwater will be removed in sections and reconstructed to provide a higher structure for more inner harbor protection. Work on the west breakwater is expected to begin in late October.

Dredging is planned for early November. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of April.
