Conference set on Kauai for caregivers of elderly

WAILUA, Kauai – Anyone who serves as a caregiver for a senior is invited to attend the Annual Caregivers Conference scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon June 17 at the Aloha Beach Resort Ali'i Room.

The cost is $5, which includes breakfast. Pre-registration is required by Monday, June 16.

Among the topics that will be covered are the following:

• Maintaining better balance -- preventing falls

• Home care techniques -- using devices safely

• How to find and use eldercare services

• American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Divided We Fail Program

Featured speakers include: Dr. Heather Hopkins, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist with Kaua'i Medical Clinic's Bone and Joint Center; Meynard Enriquez, master of physical therapy who specializes in balance; Linda Neuman, director of nursing for the Hawai'i Healthcare Professionals; and Audrey Suga-Nakagawa with AARP Hawaii.

The event is co-sponsored by the Kauai County Agency on Elderly Affairs and AARP Hawaii.

Funding is provided by the Agency on Elderly Affairs and the Federal Administration on Aging through the state Executive Office on Aging.
