TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Million Dollar Password," 7 p.m., CBS. Betty White, a game-show icon, is a contestant in this slick, smart show. White, 86, has been a great contestant and an Emmy-winning host; she's also the widow of "Password" host Allen Ludden. Susie Essman, 53, is the other celebrity.

"The Bill Engvall Show" (6 p.m.) and "My Boys" (6:30) season-openers, TBS. With other networks abandoning comedies, TBS offers an adequate change of pace. Engvall's show has all the cliches — smart mom, disconnected dad, shallow teens, goofy neighbor. It also has just enough funny moments to hold us. "My Boys," by comparison, has a sleek look and sharp perceptions of yuppie life. Tonight, we learn who PJ (Jordana Spiro) took to Italy. Back home, her brother (Jim Gaffigan) has gone upscale. And Mike has endangered the social balance by sleeping with a waitress at their favorite bar.

OF NOTE

"The A-List Awards," 7-8:30 p.m. (repeating 8:30-10 p.m.), Bravo. Kathy Griffin hosts and has some legitimate awards, for best fashion, chef and restaurant. Along with that are awards for actress, TV show, Web personality and even "A-list must-have": the choices — baby, iPhone, rock band, rehab.

"My Life on the D-List," 10 p.m., Bravo. After winning an Emmy last fall, Kathy Griffin's loose reality show starts its fourth season.

"Swingtown," 9 p.m., CBS. Last week, Susan (Molly Parker) was fascinated by the possibility of mate-swapping. Tonight, she goes to the Playboy Club (this is 1976 Chicago) with her husband and two swingers.

"Fear Itself," 9 p.m., NBC. We meet a brutal cop (Eric Roberts); scary things, of course, are coming to him. This may seem too standard, but it has sharp direction (by Brad Anderson), fine actors (Roberts, Cynthia Watros), a neat character touch and a final twist.
