Michael May to retire as head of Hawaiian Electric Co.

By Rick Daysog
Advertiser Staff Writer

Hawaiian Electric Co. announced today that its president and chief executive officer, T. Michael May, is retiring.

The 61-year-old May's retirement is the latest change in HECO's upper management. Eric Yeaman, HECO's former senior executive vice president and chief operating officer, recently left the company to become chief executive officer of Hawaiian Telcom.

May has served as president and CEO of HECO for 13 years and has spearheaded the company's clean-energy efforts.

His term as CEO will end Aug. 1 but he will remain with the company until year's end to assist in the transition.

HECO is a unit of Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., which recently retained an outside executive search firm to look for May's replacement.
