Family turns in teen suspected of stealing beer

Advertiser Staff

A 14-year-old girl and a teenage boy were arrested early this morning on suspicion of stealing a bottle of beer from a convenience store and hitting a 62-year-old man with a can of soda as they attempted to get away.

Police said the incident occurred last night in Palolo Valley. The elderly man stopped the girl before she could exit with the unpurchased beer, but the boy, between the ages of 15 and 17, then allegedly hit the man in the head with a can of soda and the suspects fled.

Police said the mother and aunt of the girl found out about the theft, however, and called police. The girl was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
