AIRPORT
Town-bound traffic to slow nightly at viaduct

Three lanes of H-1 Freeway eastbound at the Airport Viaduct between a point west of the airport on-ramp to the Middle Street Tunnel will be closed from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily today through Friday morning.

The closures are needed so the Department of Transportation can conduct concrete pavement repair work.

To minimize vibrations along the viaduct while the concrete cures, the speed limit near the repair area will be reduced to 15 mph. Special duty police officers will be on-site to enforce this speed limit.

All on- and-off-ramps will remain open during these times. Single-lane closures may also be implemented on Nimitz Highway below the viaduct during these hours as a safety precaution.

The scheduled roadwork is part of a $9.1 million project to repair potholes along a nearly three-mile stretch of the viaduct between Middle and Valkenburgh streets.
