KAILUA, KONA
Advisory council will discuss island tourism

Gov. Linda Lingle's West Hawai'i Community Advisory Council will meet Wednesday to hear a presentation on the effect the closures of Aloha Airlines and ATA Airlines and the reduction of cruise ship port calls are expected to have on tourism on the Big Island.

The presentation by Marsha Wienert, state tourism liaison, will be at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawai'i Authority Gateway Center, 73-4460 Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway No.101 in Kailua, Kona. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

Wienert will also discuss state efforts to help affected employees, ensure continuity of service and boost tourism to the island. A question-and-answer period will follow her presentation.
