Panel to discuss visitor industry workforce development

Advertiser Staff

Development of Hawai'i's visitor industry workforce will be the luncheon topic at a meeting of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Hawai'i Chapter from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 2 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki.

Sponsors say a qualified and skilled workforce "is imperative as we deal with issues such as welcoming visitors from the new markets of China and Korea, or maintaining service levels of excellence in this very competitive marketplace or visitors with high expectations as they spend more to vacation in Hawai'i."

Speakers will talk about some of the critical challenges and learn about the new Tourism Workforce Development Strategic Plan – Vision 2015:

• Dr. Walter Jamieson, dean, School of Travel Industry Management, University of Hawai'i-Manoa

• Professor Ron Umehira, department chair, Hospitality and Tourism Program, Kapi'olani Community College

• Konrad Talon, member, Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Board

• Robbie Kane, product development manager, Hawai'i Tourism Authority

Cost per person is $35 for PATA members and $40 for guests or nonmembers. Reservations are being accepted at procom@hawaii.rr.com or at 621-2482 ext. 3. Deadline for reservations is June 27.
