Kailua High's Surfrider Robotics Team is entered in the 2008 MATE International Underwater Robotic Competition at Scripps Institution of Oceanography–University of California in San Diego June 26-28.

This is the third straight year Kailua High has been invited to the international competition. The team is coached by David Izumi.

The competition is open to student teams from middle schools to universities in different classes depending on the sophistication of the remotely operated vehicles and the mission requirements.

The theme of this year's competition is "Diving to the Deep: Uncovering the Mysteries of Mid-Ocean Ridges."
