Maui County to celebrate 'Skateboarding Day'

The County of Maui will join the rest of the nation in celebrating "Go Skateboarding Day" on Saturday.

The county's Department of Parks and Recreation will host a free family-friendly skate jam, with skateboarding events and a contest at the Skateboard Park in Central Maui's Keopuolani Park.

Go Skateboarding Day gives skateboarders, as well as those are simply inspired by skateboarding, the opportunity to be creative, get outside and have fun on a skateboard, according to a news release from the county.

The event is part of the Maui Skateboard Series sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department to promote positive, fun-filled and family oriented skateboarding activities. according to the news release.

Families are encouraged to attend. Saturday's event will begin at noon with music, skateboard activities targeted for all ages and abilities, and prizes. There is no admission charge for the event.
