A bicyclist killed by a hit-and-run driver in Kane'ohe on Tuesday was identified by officials yesterday as Kenzie Thompson, 63, of Kane'ohe.

Police said Thompson was riding a Schwinn 15-speed bicycle on the east sidewalk of Kamehameha Highway, traveling north, when a 1989 Thunderbird veered onto the sidewalk and rear-ended him near Pua 'Inia Street at 9:48 a.m.

Thompson was taken in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the T-Bird, an 85-year-old man from Ha'iku Plantations, drove off but police arrested him at 10:05 a.m.

The driver was booked for investigation of negligent homicide and failure to render aid. He was released pending further investigation.
