ELE'ELE – An 84-year-old pedestrian struck by a vehicle in 'Ele'ele Wednesday at approximately 4:30 p.m. has been identified as Lena Mendonca of 'Ele'ele.

Kaua'i officials said she sustained serious head injuries, was transported to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital, treated and later medivaced to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.

Officials identified the driver of the pickup truck that struck Mendonca as Carlo Salvador, 46, also of 'Ele'ele. He was treated at Veterans Memorial.

Kaua'i Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident.
