Today's ticket: Hula, the zoo and Go Jimmy Go

The 35th Annual King Kamehameha Hula Competition kicks off tonight with halau from Hawai'i and Japan competing. The show starts at 6 p.m at the Blaisdell Arena and continues at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Tickets are $20. Call 586-0333 for more information.

Other highlights tonight:

  • The Honolulu Zoo is joining the UH Institute of Astronomy to host Discover Animals in the night sky. At 6:30 p.m., a short animal tour will be given. At 7 p.m., the institute will give a starlab presentation. By 7:30, keiki can make their own constellation activities and eat snacks before before star gazing through telescopes from 8 p.m. to 9.

Cost is $12 per adult and $8 per child ages 4 to 12. For zoo members, cost is $10 per adult and $7 per child.

  • When they sing "I'll be good to you," you know Go Jimmy Go means it, particularly when they return to their familiar stomping grounds at Anna Bannana's. You have to be 18, but this is a chance to catch the band that's opening for Smashmouth at the Waikiki Shell in August at a cozy venue. Omega Station will also perform.
