Wie shoots 71, 8 behind leader in LPGA event

Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot her second consecutive 1-under-par 71 today, but fell eight strokes behind leader Morgan Pressel in the second round of the Wegmans LPGA at Locust Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.

Wie, a Punahou alum, is at 2-under 142 and tied for 17th. Pressel, who represents Kapalua Resort on the LPGA Tour, shot a 65 and was at 134. Suzann Pettersen was a stroke back after a 65.

The projected cut was 1 over par.

Wie started her round on the back nine and made the turn at even par with bogeys on Nos. 10 and 18 and birdies on Nos. 11 and 12. She bogeyed the par-5 No. 4, but rallied with birdies on Nos. 7 and 8.
