Glitch grounds Hawaiian Air flight

Advertiser Staff

A computer problem on board a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Manila to Honolulu Thursday forced the aircraft to return to the Philippines as a precaution.

The Boeing 767 landed safely in Manila and the 132 passengers were put up in a Manila hotel until the computer could be repaired. A Hawaiian spokesman said there were no replacement parts in Manila and the airline had to fly them to the Philippines.

The repairs were completed and the flight was scheduled to depart Manila last night and arrive here this morning. No other flights were affected, the spokes-man said.

In addition to the hotel accommodations, the passengers were provided with meals, ground transportation, and a $400 travel credit, the spokesman said. This is the first mechanical problem involving a flight to or from the Philippines since Hawaiian started its Honolulu-Manila service in April, the spokesman said.
