Hawai'i's Kevin Wong and partner Matt Olson earned their first title as team today, capturing the Association of Volleyball Professionals event at Belmar, N.J.

Wong, a Punahou alum, and Olson, of Santa Barbara, Calif., beat Nick Lucena and Sean Scott, another Punahou alum, 22-20, 21-15, in the final.

Wong and Olson were the top seeds in the tournament.

"Over the course of the year we've improved a lot and we're still getting better," said Wong, 35. "There hasn't been a week that's gone by where we've taken a step backwards. And that's the key thing — we're getting towards the middle of the season and there's still a lot of ball to be played."

Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan beat Carrie Dodd and Tatiana Minello 15-21, 21-18, 15-10 for their 10th women's title together.
