Discover what's going on beneath the ocean surface and celebrate International Year of the Reef 2008 at Maui Ocean Center's Reef Night bash. The theme is "Cherish the Living Reefs," with more than 20 exhibitors from local organizations, live entertainment, environmental and cultural presentations, a fashion show, door prizes, a photo wall, poster contest results, Ocean Awareness Training graduate recognition and refreshments, 6-9:30 p.m. today. $16, adult; $13 child, kama'aina rates available. www.mauioceancenter.com.

Mauna Lani Resort will celebrate its annual Turtle Independence Day. Since 1989, the resort has accepted juvenile turtles from Sea Life Park and raised them in the saltwater ponds of the hotel. The honu are cared for until they grow to a size and weight that are deemed appropriate for release into the ocean. This release occurs every Fourth of July, Turtle Independence Day, at water's edge in front of the hotel.

The resort will host a morning of educational celebration and family fun. Sea Life Park and National Marine Fisheries will be present to raise awareness and help educate the public about the Hawaiian green sea turtle. 8:30-11:30 a.m. Free. 808-885-6622, www.maunalani.com.
