Hirono announces $200K grant for Hawaii homeless veterans' program

Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono, D-Hawai'i, today announced a $200,000 U.S. Department of Labor grant to fund the Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program at Kalaeloa.

Under the direction of the United States Veterans Initiative-Hawai'i, the Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program provides pre-employment training, job placement, and job retention services to qualified applicants, in the ongoing effort to get homeless veterans back into the labor force, according to a news release issued by Hirono's office.

United States Veterans Initiative-Hawai'i, a non-profit organization, enrolls some 400 homeless veterans annually in programs that involve transitional and permanent shelters, substance abuse counseling and treatment, job counseling and referral, employment assistance, transportation, housing and clothing, according to the news release.
