The Army has identified a soldier found dead at Schofield Barracks on Monday as Spc. Kenneth R. Jacobs, 22, from Holley Springs, N.C.

A Schofield spokesman said the death still is being investigated. A cause of death and the circumstances were not available, the spokesman said.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office said it didn't have jurisdiction in the case.

Jacobs was with the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry "Wolfhounds," 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and was on a deployment to Iraq that ended in October. The 3rd brigade is preparing to deploy again to Iraq in the fall.

The Army said city paramedics were called and attempts were made to revive Jacobs, but the effort was unsuccessful.

Jacobs arrived in Hawai'i in September 2006, the Army said.
