Wildfire raging in Maui uplands

Advertiser Staff

A late-afternoon Maui wildfire which started in the area of the windmills in Ma'alaea has spread to an area at 3,300 feet level above the Ukumehame Firing Range.

The fire started at 5:09 p.m. Occasional gusts of 30-40 miles per hour hampered air water drops which was suspended for safety reasons due to darkness.

The state's Division of Forestry and Wildlife has dispatched a firefighting crew to join Maui Fire Department personnel. No injuries are reported, no structures are in the immediate vicinity and no roads are closed.
