AAJA to host political panel on race and gender in elections

The Asian American Journalists Association Hawai'i chapter will sponsor a panel discussion on the 2008 presidential elections. The program, to be broadcasted live on PBS, will air tonight at 7:30 on the station's Island Insights show.

The panel will include discussions about race and gender in this year's presidential elections and in local politics, how Hawai'i media can successfully localize the presidential elections, and how to improve coverage of both national and local elections.

Panelists include Denby Fawcett of KITV, The Honolulu Advertiser's Treena Shapiro and Richard Borreca of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Dan Boylan will serve as the moderator.

Additional commentary will be provided by Gina Mangieri of KHON-2, Democratic Party of Hawai'i chairman Brian Schatz, and Willes Lee, chairman of the Hawai'i Republican Party.

Questions or comments for panelists can be sent to insights@pbshawaii.org.
