Advertiser Staff

Services will be held today in Kailua, Kona, for Katsuhiro Takahashi, the pilot killed in the June 17 crash of an Island Hoppers tour plane on the Big Island.

Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kona Church of the Nazarene.

Takahashi, 40, and two passengers died when a Cessna 172 crashed in a thick hapu'u forest high on the southeastern slope of Mauna Loa.

Takahashi was born in Japan and moved to Hawai'i in 2005. He was active in the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the National Association of Flight Instructors.

Survivors include his wife, Takako, of Kailua, Kona; parents Yutaka and Atsuko Takahashi of Japan; and brother Kenji Takahashi of Japan.

A Hui Hou Crematory & Funeral Home of West Hawai'i is handling arrangements.
