Arizona's bell will ring on 4th

Advertiser Staff

On July 4, Pearl Harbor survivors will take part in a synchronized bell ringing ceremony involving 10,000 bells nationwide, according to a USS Arizona Memorial news release.

At exactly 8 a.m., survivors will ring the bell of the Arizona 13 times to commemorate the 13 original states. Bells across the nation — including the famed Liberty Bell — will sound simultaneously.

The event at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center is part of the Let Freedom Ring National Bell Ringing Ceremony, which was officially authorized by Congress in 1963.

The public is invited to join in the ceremony, as well as the events to follow, which include survivor presentations, a meet-and-greet with the survivors and book signings.

An exhibit of Pearl Harbor Survivor license plates from across the nation will be on display. The exhibit was donated by the National Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

All events are free and open to the public.
