Advertiser Staff

Justin Keiley, of Ha'iku, Maui, shot a course-record tying 8-under-par 64 yesterday to win a USGA Junior Sectional qualifier at Wailea's Old Blue Course on Maui.

Keiley, who opened with a 77 on Wednesday, shot 3-under 141 to beat Honolulu's Brett Komoto (70) by one stroke. Honolulu's Lorens Chan (72—143) will be the second alternate for the USGA Junior Championship, July 21 to 26, at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Alabama.

Keiley, who completed his sophomore year at Baldwin High, clinched the national berth with a round that included six birdies and a chip-in eagle on the 6,675-yard layout. He shares the course record with Nubuo Serizawa (1987), Dottie Pepper (1992) and Kirk Nelson (2004).

In the one-day girls qualifier, Honolulu's Alina Ching (69) and Anna Jang (72) earned berths to the national championship, which will be held July 21 to 26 at Hartford Golf Club in Connecticut.

Ching, who will be a sophomore at Punahou School, bogeyed the first hole of Wailea's 6,125-yard layout, but recovered with five birdies.

Honolulu's Kristina Merkle (75) and Lihu'e's Kelli Oride (76) will be the alternates.
