Hannemann opens campaign headquarters

By Peter Boylan
Advertiser Staff Writer

Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann began his bid for re-election today with the blessing of his campaign headquarters at Dole Cannery.

Hundreds showed up to show their support for Hannemann, who has yet to draw any serious challengers while amassing more than $2.5 million in campaign contributions.

The blessing was done by Bishop Mariano Debusca and followed with a Chinese dragon dance.

Hannemann is using the same space for his headquarters that Sen. Daniel K. Akaka used during his last re-election bid.

"I am ready for this job interview. Four years ago it was about a resume and promises. Today it is about a record, a record of accomplishment," said Hannemann, draped in lei while addressing supporters. "I am ready, more than ever, to take that record out and say we need to take Mufi Hannemann back to Honolulu Hale."
