NEW YORK — Two ballparks, two blowouts. Call it even.

Sidney Ponson pitched a gem in his return to the New York Yankees, silencing Carlos Delgado and the rest of the New York Mets for a 9-0 victory last night and a split of their two-stadium doubleheader.

Delgado dominated the day game at Yankee Stadium. He set a Mets record with nine RBIs and hit a grand slam for one of his two homers in a 15-6 win that lasted 3 hours, 54 minutes.

"You have to be able to respond," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

His team did just that.

After both squads got police escorts for their rush-hour bus trips to Shea Stadium, Bobby Abreu went 4 for 4 with a walk and three RBIs as the Yankees enjoyed a rout of their own.

Ponson outpitched Pedro Martinez with six shutout innings, and the Bronx Bombers broke loose in Queens for their first win in four Subway Series games this season.

"It was a big start for us tonight," Girardi said. "He gave us everything we needed."

Robinson Cano homered and drove in three runs for the Yankees, who have won 10 of 14 overall. Derek Jeter extended his season-high hitting streak to 15 games with an RBI double off the center-field fence.

Ponson (5-1) delivered after the Mets apparently used up all their big hits in the opener. The beefy right-hander, who pitched briefly for the Yankees in 2006, pumped his fist after wriggling out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the second.

"It's a fresh start," said Ponson, who scattered five hits over six innings. "I'm more comfortable here."

The Yankees soon got to Martinez (2-2), who allowed six runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings while dropping his second consecutive start.

In the first game, Delgado hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, his 12th career slam in the sixth and added a three-run homer in the eighth.

WHITE SOX 10, CUBS 3

Nick Swisher's grand slam capped a seven-run bottom of the third third inning against Ryan Dempster (9-3), who is 9-0 at home but 0-3 on the road, as the host White Sox ended a six-game losing streak against the Cubs.

BRAVES 4, BLUE JAYS 0

Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer and Jair Jurrjens (8-3) allowed just three hits — all singles — and didn't allow a runner to reach second base over a career-high eight innings, to lead visiting Atlanta over Toronto for only its 12th road victory of the season.

TIGERS 7, ROCKIES 1

Eddie Bonine (2-0) gave up a run and five hits over eight innings in his third major league start, Curtis Granderson was 4 for 5 with two triples as host Detroit beat Colorado to win its third straight and 14 of 18 to move one game under .500 for the first time since May 1.

RAYS 10, PIRATES 5

Evan Longoria and Eric Hinske hit three-run homers off Jimmy Barthmaier (0-1) in his major-league debut and Tampa Bay opened a seven-run lead in beating Pittsburgh to move a franchise-best 17 games over .500 at 48-31 with its fourth straight victory.

NATIONALS 4, ORIOLES 2

Pinch-hitter Kory Casto doubled in the tiebreaking run in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored on a single by Elijah Dukes to lift Washington over Baltimore for its second straight win following a four-game skid.

INDIANS 6, REDS 0

C.C. Sabathia (6-8) struck out 11 over eight innings, including his hero Ken Griffey Jr. three times, and Grady Sizemore hit his 18th homer, a solo shot off Daryl Thompson (0-1) to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth as Cleveland beat Cincinnati.

ROYALS 7, CARDINALS 2

Alex Gordon drove in four runs with a bases-empty homer and a bases-loaded double, while David DeJesus had a two-run double as host Kansas City beat St. Louis for its sixth straight victory and 11th in its last 12 games.

TWINS 7, BREWERS 6

Joe Mauer hit a go-ahead solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Matt Guerier (4-2), who pitched the eighth for the win, and Joe Nathan worked the ninth for his 22nd save as Minnesota beat Milwaukee for its 10th straight win, all against NL teams.

RED SOX 6, ASTROS 1

Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-1) limited Houston to two hits in five scoreless innings, J.D. Drew hit a three-run homer and Mike Lowell added a two-run single as Boston won its first regular-season game in Houston.

RANGERS 8, PHILLIES 7

Chris Davis homered in his first major league start and Milton Bradley, starting for only the second time in nine games since sustaining a left quadriceps strain, homered off Clay Condrey (1-1) in the fifth to snap a 6-6 tie and lift Texas over Philadelphia.

ATHLETICS 4, GIANTS 1

Dana Eveland (6-5) allowed a run on five hits in 7 1/3 innings to win his second straight decision and Jack Hannahan drove in two runs to help Oakland beat San Francisco for the seventh straight time.

MARINERS 5, PADRES 2

Jarrod Washburn (3-7) gave up two runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings to win for the first time in eight starts, Adrian Beltre drove in three runs, and visiting Seattle beat San Diego despite stranding a franchise-record 18 baserunners.

DODGERS 6, ANGELS 0

Chan Ho Park (3-2) scattered four hits over six innings, Jonathan Broxton (8th) and Takashi Saito (9th) each struck out three consecutive batters to complete the four-hitter and Andre Ethier hit a three-run homer to lift the Dodgers over the visiting Angels.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

MARLINS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 1

Ricky Nolasco (8-4) struck out nine and gave up just one run and six hits over eight innings, and Cody Ross homered to help host Florida beat Arizona in all four games the two have played each other this season.
