Rates rising for Maui water and sewer services

Advertiser Staff

New rates for Maui County water and sewer services will take effect on Tuesday.

The increase is to pay for rising operational costs and the need to upgrade and expand infrastructure, county officials said.

Water rates will increase by $2.75 a month for the average residential family, with larger increases for those who use larger volumes of water.

Sewer rates will increase up to $3.80 a month for a single family resident.

The cost of power is included in the rates charged.

Both utilities are financially self-sufficient and are not subsidized by real property taxes.

The rate increases for water and sewer service are expected to generate approximately $5.4 million in additional revenues.
