Baseball: Marlins' Uggla out with ankle sprain

Associated Press

MIAMI — Florida Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla was out of the lineup today against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a day after he sprained his left ankle and had to leave the game.

Uggla, whose 23 home runs entering Sunday was tied with Phillies second baseman Chase Utley for the major league lead, said he should be able to play in a few days.

Uggla tried to stretch a single into a double in the fourth, hurting himself as he pulled up to go back to first base. He was tagged out hobbling in the baseline and limped back to the dugout. X-rays were negative.

"The dirt was a little wet and my plant foot just kept going. I just wasn't able to catch myself in time," he said. "I've been through these kind of things before and I pretty much know what to expect."

Robert Andino replaced Uggla in the lineup against the Diamondbacks.
